This structure is flanked by a small courtyard separated from the road by a high wall with an entrance gateway.
Tarchna, Corneto, Tarquinia
Above the gate rests a rounded arch which is encompassed by a cornice, created from macco stonework which is decorated in low relief and upon which the keystone is highlighted. Next to the entranceway rests a marble plaque which narrates that in this house on May 1st, 1887 V. Cardarelli was born (Corneto-Tarquinia, 1887 – Rome, 1959). He was a noted Poet, Essayist and Prose Writer as well as Founder – together with R. Bacchelli and E. Cecchi of other intellectual activities in Rome during the 1920s. He was also responsibile for the noted magazine, “La Ronda” (1919-1923) and above all for his poetry and his autobiographical notes – in particular those regarding his numerous travels.
