Tarchna, Corneto, Tarquinia

The Tarquinia territory, one of the vastest in Italy, stretches from the shadowy woods of Viterbo all the way to the sunny beaches of the Tyrrhenian coast.
Throughout the centuries this land provided food and shelter to numerous peoples.
The present-day Tarquinia, with its pulsing vitality and in full expansion, is the living aspect of a constellation of other cities that died silently and whose traces can still be seen. In summer you can sunbathe on the local beaches and swim in the calm waters of the Tyrrhenian sea, but in any season you can enjoy the coast, the countryside, the woods. The city has a lot to offer at any time of the year.

Church of the Presentation and Convent of the Passionist Nuns

This edifice includes both the church and the convent of the Passionist Nuns and was constructed between 1759 and 1771 on the initiative of the presiding monk canonised as St. Paul of the Cross and with consensus from the Bishop of Corneto, S. Giustiniani. The name “Church of the Presentation” was attributed to this of place of worship because of the painting of the Virgin and Saints adorning the altar. The church is small and simple with a single nave and without its own facade. There is a single facade which is the entrance to both the convent and the church. The church doorway is distinguished by its architraved portal surmounted by an arched window. Between the window and the portal the inscription reads: “This is the House of God”. Inside the church, a plaque serves as a reminder that Letizia Bonaparte, Napoleon’s mother, and Cardinal Fesh, the emperor’s uncle, were temporarily buried there.
