Creata tra il 1914 e il 1918, già nota come porta Firenze (1883-84; prog. C. Grispini); sostituì l’antica porta della valle, ormai inadeguata alle esigenze della viabilità urbana.
Tarchna, Corneto, Tarquinia
The discovery of the Tarquinia mithraeum is owed to a report to the Carabinieri command for the protection of the cultural heritage: some illicit activity was underway on the Civita hillock.
The quick excavating intervention made simultaneously by the Authority for Southern Etruria Archeological Heritage focused on the need to find evidences for the place of origin of the salvaged by the Carabinieri corps after investigations.
The excavating allowed to retrieve another marble element belonging to the same sculpture , composed of a dog that, resting on the knee of the bull, fits perfectly with the marble group with the tauroctony. This finding proves that Mithras group’s place of origin is Tarquinia Civitas.
